Newly detained class 4 whumpee made to wear a muzzle as a part of their restraint.

Whumpee undergoing electric shock interrogation or experiment made to wear a special muzzle to avoid breaking their teeth or tongue in the process.

A screaming/biting whumpee getting muzzled for the guards' safety.

Class 2-4 whumpee shoved into a sensory deprivation box, tied up and gagged beforehand.

An interrogator taking the muzzle off whumpee's mouth, asking "Ready to talk to us now?"

Surgical whump prompts!

warning some of these will not be medically accurate or possible without an immortal whumpee so ignore that 💖 also sort of more intense gore stuff/me going on several tangents about my favorite pieces of unethical medical history. specific warnings for lobotomies, manipulation, infection, and dismemberment.

- i’ve kind of loved the idea of implanting something silver underneath the skin of a creature that’s weak to it. Every movement causes it to shift and itch and burn even after the skin has healed over

- amputation :) one too many escape attempts? why not make that a little harder? nab a limb every time they try running off. Maybe just start with the fingers or toes and work your way up from there.

- you know what i see a surprising lack of in whump? lobotomies. seriously where are the lobotomies. the lobotomies with long term effects. the lobotomies which a magical regenerative or immortal whumpee could recover from but leaves them scarred for life. In case you’re unaware of what lobotomies actually do to the brain, they essentially shut off your ability to think for yourself. You may still be responsive and you can still follow instructions, but they have to be very specific and step-by-step. (specifically referencing transorbital. there are different kinds with different ranges of damage potential but the transorbital is the most well known. fun fact the guy who invented the transorbital lobotomy rode around in a car he called the lobotomobile. you can’t make this shit up.)

- my love for victorian medical practices is seeping in here but perform a surgery with dull and dirty tools! The crusted blood on the scalpel adds to the effect. Bonus points if it causes a nasty infection

- Circling back to lobotomy-adjacent stuff, have your whumper fuck around with removing non-essential parts of the brain. Get an H.M. situation where you remove their ability to move short-term memories to their long-term bank. Maybe remove the amygdala, too. Or parts of the cerebellum so that they’re all uncoordinated. Not sure just how effective that would be though since I’m pretty sure the cerebellum controls other stuff too.

- leather straps securing them to the table. must i say more.

- also seriously implant devices into them. explosives, a little thing that releases drugs, something that taps into their nerves, etc…

- organ harvesting. classic but hey. i’m a simple man.

- maybe the whumper is a respected surgeon. whumpee goes to whumper for help with a rare medical condition that could maybe be solved through surgery, and instead of immediately helping them whumper keeps them to document their condition, subjecting them to various treatments and vivisections in order to find some way to “help” them. whumpee case studies, folks!

- sorry this is absolutely me sneaking my personal favorite tropes into this post but please dismember your whumpees n put them back together ball jointed doll style. surprise you can’t move on your own anymore but you can still hold a pose! loser.

Drugged Hero Whumpee used as Party Favor at Villain's Party part 9

Warnings: living weapon whumpee, drugged sedation, torture, blood, medical whump, restraints, aftermath of torture, forced betrayal, friend pitted against friend

"What are you doing?" Shadow snapped. Fear leaked into her voice.

"Planting a tracker. Can't have my prized possession running off before my experiments are finished." Archenemy smiled wolfishly, a hunter with the trophy of a lifetime as he brought the blade to her arm. "Don't worry, it'll only hurt for a few minutes. And with your gift, you'll get over it... eventually."

The first slice across her forearm wasn't too bad, Shadow just gritted her teeth against it. But everything after that was pain. Pure pain.

An agonized shriek tore loose from her chest as Archenemy slowly cut deeper into her skin, taking his time and splitting the layers of flesh one by one with meticulous care and precision.

Shadow started thrashing and struggling, but there was nowhere to go, she was strapped down too tightly. She screamed her throat raw as the scalpel sliced through muscle tissue, yanking against her restraints hard enough to bruise and chafe her skin.

It felt like her arm was being dipped in lava -- the pain was excruciating, setting every nerve alight with it.

Shadow's blue eyes flicked over Archenemy's shoulder to lock with Ava's. Ava held her gaze, though Shadow could have sworn she flinched sympathetically as she let out another ragged wail of agony. But it was probably too much to hope for from the living weapon.

The seconds ticked by with no end in sight, everything was just pain, pain, PAIN. Sweat dripped down Shadow's forehead, and she felt something small and round like a marble being pressed in the wound and tucked deep into the center of her arm -- it felt like it was nestled against the bone itself.

She was gasping and panting for breath when Archenemy finally closed the wound with a few stitches, but it was hardly a relief. The pain stayed there, lodged inside her, like fire in her flesh.

"See? That wasn't so hard, was it? You took it like a champion," Archenemy cooed, and patted Shadow's cheek mockingly.

Shadow tried to speak, but only a shallow rasp of air came out, her throat and vocal cords ruined by all the screaming. She was ashamed to feel tears of agony rolling down her face, and she squeezed her eyes shut to avoid seeing Archenemy's face any more. She just focused on surviving from one second to the next, breathing through the blazing pain.

She gave up, kept her eyes closed and didn't fight when she felt the leather straps being taken off, the typical cuffs being put back on her wrists and ankles. At least the brutal muzzle stayed off, the tiniest comfort.

Shadow stayed limp and lifeless as she felt herself being picked up by who she knew had to be Ava, because Archenemy would never do such dirty work as taking a mangled body back to a prison cell.

Every wound throbbed horribly, both the ones she got from the earlier fight with Ava and the fresh one in her arm. Shadow groaned weakly as Ava slid her off her shoulder, setting her down on the mattress on the floor.

"Open your eyes," Ava coaxed softly. "I need to make sure you don't have a concussion from earlier. Not that you won't heal from it anyway, but Archenemy prefers I keep an extensive log of injuries sustained by captives. For the records." But Shadow didn't care to, couldn't bear to see her friend seeing her like this. Didn't want to see Ava's reaction.

"Go away and let me rest," Shadow wheezed. It was barely more than a whisper on a breath of air, squeezed past her bloody throat.

"Do you really want to make this harder for yourself?" Ava's voice scoffed in disbelief. "You just took a serious beating. Just because you'll heal, doesn't mean it doesn't hurt in the meantime. I'm allowed to give you some painkillers to help you rest."

"And whose fault is it I need painkillers in the first place?" Shadow retorted with a cough. She didn't expect it to elicit a reaction, but she felt Ava recoil slightly as if stung.

"You did this to yourself," Ava said quietly, though she sounded sad... and maybe even a little guilty? "If you had come willingly, I wouldn't have had to intervene. You shouldn’t have tried to attack Archenemy.”

“Yeah, well, if you had helped at all – kff – maybe I would have won.” Shadow broke off into a bout of wheezing coughs, swallowing the blood in her throat.

“...You know I can't do that.”

“But you can. That’s the stupid part,” Shadow hissed. “Archenemy’s put some crazy illusion in your head that you can’t do anything without his approval. But you are alive, you are capable of making your own decisions. You don’t need to cater to his every whim. Has he ever given you a gift? Hmm? Anything other than what's necessary solely for survival? Sounds like he doesn't care a whole lot about you if he only puts the bare minimum amount of effort into keeping you alive. You are a tool to him, and he will never see you as anything more than a useful asset. He’ll dispose of you as soon as you stop being valuable.”

“You’re wrong,” Ava instinctively blurted. “Archenemy is trying to make a better city. He says that once we win the war against the corrupt heroes, the city will be at peace. Then everything will be right again.”

Shadow finally cracked her eyes open, peering dizzily up at Ava. “War doesn’t determine who is right… it determines who is left,” she rasped quietly. “Just… think about that, at least for a little while. See if it changes your perspective.” Then she reached out a shaky hand and gestured meaningfully. “Now. You said something about painkillers?”

It almost looked like a genuine smile twitched at the corners of Ava’s mouth as she rolled two red pills into Shadow’s expectant hand. Shadow didn't have water, so she used the blood that had pooled in the back of her throat to swallow them. One minute later and her limbs started feeling heavy.

“...There was a sedative in there too, wasn’t there?” Shadow slurred drowsily with a groan.

“Sorry… but you need rest to recover. And I know you well enough to know that you'd stay up all night and run yourself ragged trying to find a way to escape.”

“Darn right… I would have…” Shadow’s voice faded into a mumble as the tranquilizer took over, plunging her into unconsciousness.

Just have to say, I think using someone's own blood to swallow pills is probably the coolest and most metal thing I've ever come up with to write. We can all agree on that, right? 😂

Psych Whump Masterlist

This is going to be my go-to list every time I find something with medical or psych whump in it that I want to remember. I'll reblog it frequently and try to keep it updated but it's going to start small because good psych whump is so hard to find. (This in no way endorses medical abuse, I'm a mentally ill individual but I love consuming psych whump in media. Just about everything in these movies, books, etc are at the very least morally gray so consume at your own risk. Also, I only enjoy these things in fiction. Irl it makes me sick to my stomach, I know bc I've experienced some of this.) I'll try to add trigger warnings for each one but I might miss some so I apologize in advance. A Cure For Wellness: Guy gets tricked into becoming a patient at a "resort" that's really a mental hospital in disguise that uses its patients for nefarious means. CW: incest, medical abuse, teeth falling out, sexual assault, some weird eel shit ^^There's probably more but I haven't watched the film in a while.

TV Shows:

Moon Knight: Whole season of psych whump, the main character has DID and loads of past trauma. Has a huge ancient Egypt theme and the MC gets (kind of) forced to accept psychiatric care. CW: lots of ableism, mental break, psychotic episodes, forced institutionalisation, child abuse, restraints

Books:

House of Leaves: This book is a fever trip but the MC (kind of?? The book has multiple authors, it's honestly very confusing but it's great) suffers from declining mental health and spirals hard. CW: child abuse, lots of sexual content, mentions of a caretaker beating a child, mentions/delusions of sexual assault, death of a dog (it was brutal, huge warning), mentions/descriptions of suicide and attempted murder

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest: This is chock-full of psych and medical whump, it all takes place in a psychiatric hospital (I've actually been to the one in the film! -Not as a patient) CW: huge amounts of abuse from staff, doctors, nurses, there's also a scene where SA is implied on a patient, the MC is there after being convicted of SA'ing a minor and he's pretty unremorseful (the MC is a dick though anyways), racism, ableism

Thoughts on surgery w/o anesthesia?

It has so much good potential; The invasiveness of it, the pain, the knowledge that something is being irreversably changed inside of them and they can do shit about it, the fact that whumpee almost certainly has to be held or strapped down in order to do it and they're fighting with every fiber of their being to get away, then they get slowly weaker as they succumb to the pain/blood loss until they can't fight it anymore and they're just sitting there knowing it's just going to get worse from here, they'll keep getting weaker and their fight will keep seeping away and the agony will keep getting exponentially worse and there's nothing they can do about it.

OOOO or where whumpee is forced to hold still for whatever reason, no restraints? Either its an emergency field surgery that their friend is doing on them to save their life, or whumper told them the more they move, the longer they'll draw it out, making sure they stay awake the entire time feeling every cut and poke and prod. Or whumpee freezing in their tracks, in the middle of a scream, suddenly ghost white because they felt a sharp poke on their heart or lungs, a glare from whumper, a silent threat.

And of course the classic, they ARE under anesthesia, but it didn't work correctly, so now they're fully concious and can feel everything, but they can't do so much as twitch their eyes to let the doctors know what happening (this actually happened to my hapkido instructor, most badass old woman I've ever known. I was horrified.)

Oh also if whumper's not a doctor, they're just doing shit in your body? And you have to deal with it, the anxiety that theyll mess something up because again, theyre really just doing whatever? Peak.

Yeah it's a great trope lol. The only problem I would have is if it's not motivated in some way, just because of the risks of no anaesthesia. A person wouldnt do it in eegular circumstances, because surgery without anesthesia would be so difficult to do because of the writhing whumpee, not to mention their increased heart rate would cause them to bleed faster, they could go into shock and die, and whumpee moving around at all (and they will, even if they try not to) makes the precision cuts required of surgery very very hard. Plus other stuff i dont know because im not a doctor. But maybe that's what whumper wants. They love a good challenge ;).

A restrained and blindfolded whumpee right after detention is brought to the lab, not knowing where they are or what's waiting for them.

Whumpee being called by their assigned number by every single member of the lab staff. They don't know their subjects' names. They've been told they don't have any.

Whumpee accidentally notices a paper left on the table. The paper says "... biological asset AA-0985". It's about them.

Restrained and muzzled whumpee overhearing the researchers discussing the experiments in detail as terrifying realization sets in: they can't do anything about it.

Newly designated test subject whumpee undergoing their first lab examination tries to bargain with the doctors, ask questions and state their preferences, only to get a muzzle for "making a noise".

Whumpee frantically kicking the cell walls and doors, begging for release. The facility guards and nurses are quick to react, holding the distressed subject down to inject a dose of sedative.

Dissident whumpee trying to fall asleep on the cell bed as the regrets creep in. "What was the point in our group?" "Was it worth it?"

Whumpee instinctively crying and panicking when being restrained as they know ASR staff can do anything to them.

Class 4 whumpee with a fear of hospitals/doctors being designated as ASR test subject.

Class 3 labor camp whumpee at the doctor's office pressured to take an experimental pill instead of a normal one.

The lab subjects have a strict schedule: eating three times a day. When the whumpee refuses to, they get a feeding tube forced down their nose. (Bonus points if the whumpee has been fearful of eating since a chemical test when they started feeling really unwell after finishing their plate)

Sometimes the State Security superiors enter the lab to check on its work. When they ask to see a couple of subjects, whumpee is brought to the room to be presented to them and examined for their view.

An owner sending their "personal use" whumpee to the ASR lab for the time they have to be away for their government work, ordering to put their pet to use for a couple of unpleasant tests.

On other hand, an owner staying and watching their "property" during an experiment, smirking as they cry and plead them to stop it.

A fairly obedient whumpee being strapped to beds and chairs for every test "just to be sure". They've been acting docile and compliant to avoid being held or restrained. It doesn't work.

Whumpee on the medical bed hearing their favorite song playing on the radio for the first time after arrest.

After a long time as a test subject, whumpee is terrified of every step; desperately trying to hide and cover every time they hear footsteps from the hallway.

A doctor talking to their subject whumpee, asking about their "past" life, comforting them with a calm tone of voice while injecting them with an obviously painful substance.

Whumpee designated into a lab in another EESU republic. They don't understand their language. There's nobody to help them learn it or talk in their native one.

Whumpee selected for studying conditioning methods to develop a new political reeducation program
